MARQUETRY WEDGE by Michelle Lowe-Holder x Bioregion Institute x Stratum Marquetry

This prototype Marquetry Wedge Heel Sandal, is the result of a year-long "BIODEEP MAP PROJECT" research project with the BioRegion Institute. Looking to ancient plasticisers and techniques for modern day applications – the pieces mix biodegradable glues and wood off-cuts with modern post-consumer waste.

The BIOREGION Institute is based in Bergen, Norway and aims to bridge the gap between research and industry applications for positive environmental and social outcomes. By hacking value chains to develop novel materials and products from organic waste streams the aim is to accelerate the transition to a biocircular and sustainable society.

MICHELLE LOWE-HOLDER is a designer working in the sustainable fashion accessory arena for over a decade. Focusing on upcycling and craft to elevate value and longevity through design by integrating closed loop biodegradable materials alongside waste materials.

Michelle collaborated with STRATUM MARQUETRY, a furniture making company based in Cornwall practicing  ‘Modern Marquetry’.  The company is built upon strong sustainable core values and honest transparency. All pieces are hand crafted and unique using industrial waste and plywood offcuts.
